OKULTIKA

The other day while grocery shopping at the fruit store I found an eggplant with a nose. This and the chants out of the action chaple and the muesszin from the minarett inspired me to set up for another OKULTIKA picture. I did one last year in Rio de Janeiro while learning a lot about Umbanda, Candomblé and Macumba. The first one my friend Christian Senti shot in an installation of mine. The inspiraton therefore was the tradition of «silvester chlause» in the swiss mountains. It's a tradition from Urnäsch in Appenzell where on the first day of the year men disguise as «di schöne / di wüechtä» «the beautiful / the ugly» and go from house to house to send bad spirits away for the next year.
